Foliage Fever

Date: 23 Jan 2018

Not only do houseplants increase the feel-good factor by having some greenery about, but many will also help purify the air we breathe.
Head to east London to check out these pretty, insta-worthy plant shops for botanical inspiration galore.

The flower warehouse, Bethnal Green

This vast warehouse of plants on Cambridge Heath Road has a really great selection of flowers, indoor plants, hanging terrariums and multiple cacti. It’s also a cheaper alternative to the pricier nearby plant shops, with some great local advice from the friendly owners. 517A Cambridge Heath Rd, E2 9BU

Prick, Dalston

Owner Gynelle Leon quit flower arranging to focus on prickly plants when she launched London’s first cacti and succulent boutique. Now visitors flock to Dalston to pick up one of her weird and wonderful treasures. The shop also stocks specialist books for that empty spot on your coffee table. 492 Kingsland Rd, E8 4AE

Grace & Thorn, Hackney

Forget rows of boring brown pots or symmetrically squished blooms, Grace & Thorn let plants show off and flowers dance and sing. From signature bouquets to terrarium workshops, their philosophy is simple: help you green up your gaff - however concrete, small or borrowed your space may be.

Botany, Chatsworth Road Hackney

A pretty plant and homeware store selling all sorts of aesthetically pleasing bits and bobs. If you’re a bit of a crafty fox, you might also fancy taking part in one of their workshops. The next one’s a dried flower bouquet workshop, because arranging dead flowers is a handy skill to have…

Camden Garden Centre

You can put down your phone for this one. Camden Garden Centre doesn’t need a filter to look good, because it’s a charitable enterprise, founded in the ‘80s to help combat youth unemployment in the area. Amazing outdoor and indoor plants cacti and succulents and everything for garden, balcony, window box.

Conservatory Archives, Bethnal Green

A slice of calm in the heart of Hackney, Conservatory Archives is a green oasis packed full of succulents, prickly cacti and trailing plants. The bright spring sunshine filters through the glass-fronted shop and the temperature soars; Conservatory Archives is a tropical haven in the least likely location

The Peanut Vendor, Victoria Park

The Peanut Vendor has more to offer than foliage. It is primarily a vintage furniture emporium specialising in early to late 20th century pieces. Filled with a tempting assortment of gifts, furniture and spiky or spike-less plants jostling amid intoxicating aroma of good coffee.
Located on Gunmakers Lane, The Peanut Vendor enjoys an inviting location within sight of the Hertford Union Canal and the vast Victoria Park beyond that.
