Ahead of the highly anticipated opening of Le Jardin de Verre by Locke in February, we spoke with the design team at Fettle, the London and LA-based interior architecture and design studio led by Andy Goodwin and Tom Parker.

Fettle.

Fettle thoughtfully crafted and curated the public spaces, as well as the two signature guest suites of our new Paris property, drawing inspiration from the building’s rich heritage and the surrounding neighborhood. Fettle thoughtfully crafted and curated the public spaces of our new Paris property, drawing inspiration from the building’s rich heritage and the surrounding neighbourhood.

A Harmony of Heritage and Contemporary Design

For Le Jardin de Verre by Locke, Fettle drew inspiration from the building's unique history - two grand French Baroque mansions and a 19th century industrial factory - blending the past with the present. The result is a thoughtfully designed space that welcomes both locals and travellers alike, with rich textures, luxurious materials, and an intimate striking ambiance.

The First Glimpse

Guests are welcomed through an entrance courtyard that immediately sets the tone for the experience. Original stone flooring with outdoor seating, including rattan chairs and green-patterned parasols. Growing vines and colourful seating creates an inviting atmosphere, blending sophistication with playfulness.

Inside, the hotel’s main entrance extends the seamless flow between indoor and outdoor spaces. Green walls and a softly tinted green ceiling evoke the nearby Jardin des Plantes, while natural terracotta flooring grounds the space. A mural, created by artist Pablo Grand Mourcel, is featured behind the reception desk as a nod to Paris and the art seen throughout the property. The space is filled with contemporary, vibrant furnishings and abundant greenery, adding warmth and energy that reflect Locke’s signature aesthetic.

Vibrant Spaces and Thoughtful Design

Fettle’s vision for the public spaces was to craft a vibrant yet cohesive experience. Complementing the abundant greenery, the restaurant and cocktail bar feature bold pinks, oranges and reds, while oversized bespoke chandeliers add drama and create attention-grabbing style.

Timeless Parisian Elegance in the Suites.

The suites embody the essence of a refined Parisian apartment, each thoughtfully designed to reflect its unique character, particularly The Roseraie and Begonia Suites at Le Jardin de Verre, both of which were designed by Fettle. The Roseraie Suite embraces vibrant pink tones featuring a dramatic glazed ceiling inspired by the atrium, along with opulent touches like an oversized chandelier and marble dining surfaces, creating a luxurious yet inviting atmosphere. In contrast, The Begonia Suite offers a serene green palette, curved contemporary furniture, and a window framed by foliage, enhancing privacy while seamlessly incorporating the garden theme.

Celebrating Tradition

Throughout the hotel, Fettle has carefully curated a material palette which honors the building's rich history while embracing Locke’s contemporary vision. Traditional stone, terracotta, and timber flooring anchors the spaces in tradition, contrasted by raw industrial elements like exposed factory metal work and concrete columns. This design approach fosters a dialogue between heritage and modernity, celebrating the architectural history without relying on imitation.

A Connection to Nature

Inspired by the Fifth Arrondissements rich history of public gardens, Le Jardin de Verre by Locke embraces natural light throughout, from the triple-height restaurant to the atrium, and spacious courtyard, creating a strong connection to nature. Extensive greenery and interior landscaping seamlessly blends indoors and outdoor spaces, reflecting the area’s deep rooted connection to nature.
