Our latest addition to Bermonds Locke and Locke at Broken Wharf. Frequency will be serving up specialty coffee and delicious snacks and bites.

Frequency, known for its quality coffee and delicious food has officially landed at Bermonds Locke and Locke at Broken Wharf. Step inside and be greeted by the aroma of freshly brewed specialty coffee, sourced from the finest beans around the world then roasted at their state-of-the-art facility at Tate Britain.

We caught up with Frequency’s founder Justo Tripier to chat all thing’s coffee and how he started the brand.

How / When did frequency start?

Frequency started in 2016 in Kings Cross. I was teaching music at the time and decided to take the plunge and start a business. I booked some shop viewings, secured a lease, and before I knew it, I was off. Thankfully, my wife's dad, who had just retired, came to my rescue and helped me put the shop together. We built everything ourselves with the help of YouTube videos. It was a lot of fun, but a lot of hard work.

Can you tell us more about your roasting process?

Our process is quite simple. We start by selecting the coffee beans with the help of our partner green coffee buyers. We order samples from various farms around the world, and we cup them among our team to select our favourite ones. Once we have our selection, we roast them here in London inside a WWII Niessen hut based at Tate Britain. It is a little-known fact that the museum has a state-of-the-art coffee roastery in its grounds which they use to roast their own coffee and hire out to small companies like ours. We've been roasting our own beans since 2017 and we love it.

You have a background in music. How did you go from music to the coffee business?

I came to London in 2009 to study music, and next to the university there was this great little coffee shop called Munsons which I loved. I badgered them for ages to give me a job as they were not looking. Eventually, they took me in and I worked there for around 4 years. I really fell in love with the hospitality aspect of running a coffee shop there. Fast-forward a few years later, I was teaching music and decided to give my own business a go.

Where else can we find you?

You can also find us in Angel, Kings Cross and Paddington.

Rate your coffee art skills from 0 - 10.

I reckon I'm a solid 6. I can do a good heart and a tulip, but never mastered the swan or anything else.
