From classic capitals to lesser-known places, here’s the best cities in Europe for a three day city break. Plus the top hotels to stay in when you’re there.

There’s nowhere quite like Europe.

If you want to experience multiple cities, cultures and climates, then a trip to Europe is the place to go. In just a couple of hours you can jump from one city to the next without even a hint of jetlag. And with cheap flights available and bank holidays spread across the year, there’s no better way to spend a long weekend.

So where to? Whether you’re more into bucket list ticking or getting off the beaten track, there are plenty of destinations you can explore in a quick trip. Perfect for those that only have two or three nights to get away. And sure, you might not see every museum or monument, but you’ll definitely get to experience the city’s highlights and hidden gems.

Berlin

Berlin is one of those cities you’ll never be bored in. Its creative, progressive vibe means there’s always something new to do. From up and coming restaurants, to the latest clubs to join Berlin’s epic nightlife scene.

The classic sights are not to be missed either. Stroll through the city and you’ll experience everything from the Berlin Wall Memorial to the Reichstag Building’s panoramic glass dome. As well as the open-air East Side Gallery, the longest of its kind in the world.

When it comes to where to stay, Locke has you covered. Overlooking the River Spree, our Berlin aparthotel blends sleek interiors with city skyline views. Plus it’s very own late night bar, perfect for getting a nightcap after a show at the nearby Mercedes-Benz Arena.

Lisbon

For fresh seafood, colourful façades and the best custard tarts in the world, it can only be Lisbon. The Portuguese city offers a fantastic short break for spontaneous sunshine and excellent eats. And it really only takes a few days to see its best bits.

By day, discover the historic districts of Alfama and Baixa where narrow streets contain architectural gems and weekend markets. Then head to Bairro Alto for the city’s best nightlife. There’s also local beaches and easy-to-reach day trips to Sintra’s fairytale-like palaces.

Nearby in the city’s designer district of Avenida de Liberdade you’ll find international stores and a cool, creative crowd. As well as our destination Lisbon aparthotel with its own outdoor pool, set in a former 17th century convent.

Edinburgh

Everyone falls in love with Edinburgh. The Scottish capital has a lot of heart. From must dos like Edinburgh Castle and Arthur’s Seat, to an iconic calendar of festivals including the world-famous Fringe.

Come for the comedy, history or a foodie weekend in the city. There’s plenty of hot spots to keep you busy from the shops and landmarks along Princes Street to George Street’s chic lineup of bars and boutique stores. And not forgetting the Royal Mile, the centre of Edinburgh’s Old Town where street performers and fascinating tours entertain tourists.

Within a few steps, you’ll find our central Edinburgh aparthotel. An oasis among the city’s energetic pulse. With room to cook, relax, sleep and be social however and whenever you like.

Paris

You can’t go wrong with Paris. The French capital is a quintessential European getaway. Perfect for three night city breaks with international rail making it even easier to reach.

Like most popular cities, there’s enough to fill a decade of itineraries. But in just a few days you can make the most of the highlights. Cruise along the River Seine to capture Paris’ historical sights - and a glittering display of the Eiffel Tower. Stop by Notre Dame, then spend the afternoon in local neighbourhoods for strolls among romantic gardens and boutiques. And don’t miss a chance to indulge in European café culture. Order a coffee and croissant, or wine and selection of cheeses, and soak in Parisian life from the streets.

Planning a trip soon? Pair your city break with the opening of our newest aparthotel in Paris’ 5th arrondissement. Where luxury apartments take on the historic design of the nearby Latin Quarter, with a serene courtyard and dedicated yoga studio for serious relaxation.

London

For skyscraper views and streetside pints. British landmarks and international eats. The UK capital is a place you can visit again and again. So even if you’ve been before, you’ve definitely not seen every side.

You could spend a lifetime in London and never do it all (trust us, we’re trying). But you can also get a great sense of the city in just a few days. The trick is to pick your shortlist of must dos. A Brick Lane curry. Walk along Tower Bridge. Shopping spree in Knightsbridge. You choose.

Whether you fancy the east’s edgy scene or the glamour and green spaces of the west, a city break in London is never a bad idea. And when you stay in one of Locke’s London aparthotels, you’ll only ever be minutes from the action. With locations in every part of the capital, from South Kensington to south of the river.

Munich

If beer isn’t your scene, then Munich might not be on your radar. But aside from Oktoberfest, there’s tons to see in this German city. Think epic museums, alternative music venues, tons of markets and plenty of parks. One of which even has a river surfing spot that’s as cool to watch as it is to join in. And yes, if you’re partial to a pint, there’s also a seriously fun collection of beer halls no matter which month you go.

If countryside is more your thing then don’t scroll by just yet. Catch the BOB train to Lake Tegernsee and you’ve got yourself a lakeside break in the midst of the Bavarian Alps.

Whether you’re after central city living or looking for some downtime, our Munich apartment hotels have got it all. Located in the vibrant district of Glockenbachviertel, Schwan Locke is within reach of all Munich’s best bits. Whilst our destination aparthotel in Sendling boasts a pool, sauna, gym and yoga studio to help you unwind after a day in the city.

Dublin

Dublin might be a compact city, but it’s also incredibly diverse and packed with things to do. Of course you’ll want to try a local Guinness from a spot along Temple Bar. But there’s also tons of museums, galleries, walking tours and picture-perfect sights to add to your three day itinerary.

For the boozers there’s Jameson Distillery and the Irish Whiskey Museum. Then there’s the Temple Bar Gallery & Studios and Project Arts Centre for those into a bit of culture. You’ve got more restaurants, bars and pubs then you’ll be able to fit in. And lovely walks along the River Liffey, including the Ha’penny Bridge that sits in front of our Dublin aparthotel.
