Now found in both our Dublin properties, Hello Charlie is the latest addition the Locke’s culinary offering. Serving up speciality coffee, pastries and light bites to fuel your day.

Hello Charlie has landed at Zanzibar Locke and Beckett Locke. With its slogan ‘Feel Good Coffee’, Hello Charlie is the perfect spot to start your day with baked goods, light bites and speciality coffee. We caught up with the team on their beans, sourcing and Dublin’s coffee culture.

How Did the Initial Idea for Hello Charlie Come About?

Coffee shops have always been a huge part of my life and have a long history in Dublin. For almost two centuries, Dubliners have used coffee houses as places to meet, work, and relax. In recent years, I noticed that while many cafes excelled in coffee quality, they often lacked in service, or vice versa. Sometimes, great cafes forgot about their guests, who took the time to visit and spend their hard-earned money. I wanted to create an environment where our welcome was as important as the cup of coffee or our house-baked treats. Hello Charlie, is that place, and even if you just think of us, we are saying hello.

Tell Us About Your Coffee Beans?

Our aim is to work with suppliers within Dublin City to minimise our environmental impact and support local producers. For instance, our oat milk supplier, D-Oat, is based just across the Liffey on Camden Street. Our amazing roaster, Bean Inspired, is located in Sandyford. They are a woman-owned, women-only grower company that donates a percentage of their profits back into the International Women's Coffee Alliance (IWCA).

What’s Your Hello Charlie Order?

I love coffee as coffee, so for me, it's an Americano with a sweet treat as I have a terrible sweet tooth. Sometimes, only a flat white hits the spot.

Are There Any Other Coffee Spots in Dublin You Think Are Doing a Great Job?

I love Mister Magpie in Ballsbridge for their incredible batch brew and Turkish coffee. And, of course, the granddaddy of them all, Metro Café on South William Street, offers the best people-watching in Dublin.
